The Stories Behind Our Favourite Prints

We love all of our prints, but there are a few stand outs that we thought deemed a blog post of their own.

Whether it be a special moment shared, the start of a new chapter, or just an all-time favourite photo, we’re here to tell the story behind a few of our favourites.

Starting off with one of our most recent and special prints:

Shaping Dreams

This was a scene shot for our short film Shaping Dreams and turned out even more beautiful than we could have imagined! We woke up before the sun and raced to the sand dunes just in time to capture the warm golden glow gradually lighting up the sky as the boys ran to the waves below. Not only is it one of our favourite photos on paper, drawing inspiration from endless summer and its quintessential image of surfing and adventure, but is also marks the first Solside Studio short film and the start of our film-making journey as a team of creatives.

Full Moon Dip

This was one of those moments that will stay with us forever. Capturing the girls going for a cheeky swim in the ocean as the full moon rose in the distance. The sky changing from warm tones to cool blue and purple hues as we all enjoyed the scene unfolding in front of us. It was moments like these that really solidified the idea of us all living life and capturing it along the way, with Glenn swimming in the water with the camera housing and Reece on shore with the telephoto, running around so excited about what was unfolding before us. Exploring new places with our best friends, enjoying nature’s beauty and capturing it all together is really what kick started the idea for Solside Studio to become a collaborative effort.

Soul Arch & Sundown Surf

Too hard to pick, these two images were shot minutes apart from each other, on a classic Exmouth evening glass off. Some of our most special memories from winters up north are from sitting out the back, watching the sun disappear over the ocean as we surf until the very last light of day. Watching the sky transform colours…moonlight dancing on the glassy water behind us as the sun shimmered its way across the water in front, and saying to ourselves “one more wave and then I’ll go in” on repeat until we just couldn’t surf (or see) any more. Returning to shore in the dark, smiling ear to ear, starving, thirsty, no idea what’s for dinner and oozing pure stoke as we load the vans up and say “maybe we’ll get another wave in the morning!”

Memories of pure froth for living in the moment.

The Duke

Aside from being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, this also was the location of some of our greatest memories with fellow travellers. We spent the week of Christmas parked up on the beach together sharing stories from the road, cooking great food, dancing, surfing when there were waves and growing lifelong connections that we’ll cherish forever. And what a spot to do it!

The Journey North

This image is special on so many different levels. Aside from the obvious fact that we all love whales, this also was at the very beginning of our friendship together, spending a day out on the tinny, and seeing these gentle giants drift metres from us as they cruised on by. This marked the start of a lifelong friendship that would eventually blossom into what Solside Studio is today. Following this breathtaking moment, we were all  awestruck. But nature had other plans. Serving us up with a manta ray chain cruising around the tinny for the next hour, as we jumped in the water and got to view the massive graceful creatures cruising around and interacting with us. A day that will go down as one of our greatest days ever!
